what makeup do I use for everyday wear?

Hi friends! In today’s post I’ll be sharing with y’all what makeup I use everyday (as you could tell from the title). Let’s get right into it!

If you read my palette review post, i wrote that I like more of a dramatic look rather than a natural look for my everyday makeup. So, the eye makeup i use includes a primer, multiple shadow palettes, eyeliner, brow product and of course, mascara! For eye lid primer i use the Smashbox 24 hour and it works pretty good! There are two things that aren’t so great about it though, one being that it is clear so once you put it on you can still see discoloration of your eyelids and/or veins. What i do, though, is just go over it with a base color, like a white or taupe, and then begin my eye look. The second thing is it is EXTREMELY tacky feeling, and sticky. You cannot begin you eye look without setting it with an eyeshadow or a powder. Other than those minor flaws, it keeps the makeup on your eyes all day long. As far as palettes go, I use 3, Modern Renaissance by Anastasia Beverly Hill, Don’t Quit Your Daydream by Tarte, and then the Warm Stone from the Marble Collection by BH Cosmetics! Each of these palettes include colors that can create a dark, dramatic eye look or a natural, “no makeup” eye look! I don’t always use all three, sometimes I’m just feeling a taupe color in the crease with some mascara and others I’m feeling a berry in the crease with a darker red in the outer v. It changes everyday for me! I use an eyeliner that is from somewhere you’d probably never expect… Forever 21. The liquid liner from there lasts SO long on your eyes and it has a felt tip so it makes it really easy to do a wing with. I don’t always do my brows, but when I do i will use Gimme Brow by Benefit or a brow pencil from Beautycounter Cosmetics to shape them and give them a fuller look. Lastly for the eye look is mascara, I usually switch it up but a couple I use are the Blackest Black Mascara from Great Lash, the Full Lash Bloom by Covergirl, the Lengthening Mascara from Beautycounter, Full Exposure by Smashbox, and Lash Discovery by Maybelline. I’ll even layer two of them if I want my lashes to look super full and long!

Next let’s move onto the face. So I use a primer, foundation or cc cream, concealer, translucent powder, blush, bronzer (sometimes contour) and of course, highlight. For primer I use one from the brand Borghese, I’m not sure of the exact name. With my last Ulta purchase, I received a sample of the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer and that was the best primer I’ve ever used so I need to pick up some of that ASAP! For foundation I will either use the True Match Lumi by L’OREAL (in shade neutral) or Stay Matte But Not Flat by NYX (in shade creamy natural). The NYX one has a bit of an odor to it but I like the way it feels on my skin and the finish is nice! If I’m not feeling a foundation and I just want a little coverage to hide the redness in my face I will use the IT Cosmetics CC Cream, this will forever be my go-to! It smells so good and feels so good on my skin! For concealer I use the Shine Free Blemish Control Concealer by Maybelline, or one from NYX, i don’t really have a “set” concealer. To lock in my concealer and face makeup i will use either the Aveda loose powder or the NYX mineral powder, which does have a bit of a flashback so I don’t recommend using this if you’re planning on taking photos with flash. I mix up my blush too, I will use the blush shade from the Tarteist Contour Palette and this super pretty blush from Estee Lauder, it gives such a nice rosy look! When i want to look bronzy i will use the deep bronzing shade from Tarteist Contour Palette (Volume III), and if I want to give myself a chiseled look I’ll use the contour shade from that palette as well. For my glow guess what palette i use… the Tarteist contour palette!! can you tell i’m obsessed?? I mix the glow and highlight together and apply it on all the high points on my face, cupids bow, brow bone, tip of my nose, cheek bones, and even inner corner to make me look for alive. Oh I almost forgot, to contour my nose i use the Naked 2 Basics palette from Urban Decay, I’ll mix the shades frisk and cover and with the lightest hand shape my nose. As for lips, i will just use a chapstick, like Carmex or one from Whole Foods that I’m obsessed with, nothing fancy!

I hope you enjoyed and that this gave you some ideas on what to get if you’ve been looking for new makeup ! 🙂

my top 10 favorite bible verses!

Hi friends! If you read my first blog post, the get to know me “article”, you know that one EXTREMELY important thing to me is my faith! I’m a die hard Jesus fan, and I cannot contain my love for bible verses! I thought I would share my 10 favorite ones with y’all, (they’re in no specific order), and how i interpret them!

1. {Ephesians 4:1-2}  “I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.”                                      +Tells me how He believes we should be living our lives and treating one another.

2. {Psalm 93:4} “Mightier than the waves of the sea is His love for you.”                                                +Whenever i hear this one it reminds me of just how much He loves me!

       3. {Hebrews 13:8} “Jesus is the same yesterday and today and forever.”                                                  +This one just reminds me that times, people, and lives may change, but He never will, He will forever be the exact same.

       4. {Psalm 37:7} “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him.”                                                      +Tells me that I can’t rush his work, and His blessings will come in time.

        5. {2 Corinthians 5:7} “I will walk by faith even when I cannot see.”                                                        +Reminds me that i need to always have faith that He can fix every problem, whether it be big or small, and guide me through anything i need His guidance with!

        6. {1 Corinthians 12:33} “Bad company ruins good morals.”                                                                        +Reassures me that i’m surrounding myself with people that will make me into a better person and help guide me down the right path.”

        7. {Joshua 1:9} “We are called to be bold.”                                                                                                        +Tells me that I need to step outside of my comfort zone and, well, be bold. I take bold to mean be original in how I spread His word and not to be afraid or hold back from sharing it.

        8. {Galatians 1:10} “Do not live for the approval of others.”                                                                        +Reminds me that i shouldn’t be living my life trying to get other people to accept me and approve of my actions and everything, but I should be living how I’m called by my Creator to live, and be doing things that would allow Him to be seen through me.

       9. {1 Thesselonians 5:11} “So encourage each other and build each other up.”                                      +Reminds me that I should speak words of encouragement to my friends, family, and anyone else I meet, that build their character and self-esteem. Words that tear them down will do the exact opposite of what He says to do in the scriptures.

10.{Proverbs 11:27} “Anyone can find dirt in someone. Be the one who finds the gold.”                      +Tells me that everyone has good in them, even if it’s buried deep deep down under a bunch of bad, they have good, because our wonderful Creator made them.

So there are 10 of my absolute favorite bible verses, this of course is not all of them, i have so many favorites it was hard to choose just 10 to add to this! If you liked this post and would like a part 2 or maybe a more deep post, kind of like the videos Sadie Robertson and Emma Mae Jenkins make, shoot me an email using the contact page:)

ABH and Tarte Product “Review”

Hi friends! As you know, makeup is where it’s at for me so today i have a little review, which is in no way sponsored, its just my personal thoughts on the palettes!

I just bought the Modern Renaissance Palette from Anastasia Beverly Hill and the Tarteist Contour Palette Volume III and let me tell you one of the best purchases i’ve made. Let’s start off with the ABH palette!

So the Modern Renaissance is truthfully the most gorgeous thing ever. The colors are so vibrant and pigmented and the packaging is flawless. It consists of 14 beautiful pigments, 11 matte and 3 metallic. This might not be for everyday use if you like a natural look, because the colors are more dark neutral and berry tones, but for me, i love that for daily wear. The formula makes them extremely easy to blend out, unlike some palettes where one swipe of the brush with a dark color can ruin your eye look. Is it just me or do the names of eyeshadows entertain and interest you? I know Urban Decay and Tarte have some great names for theirs. In this ABH palette the names describe the colors perfectly, for example, burnt orange or warm taupe. They’re simple, but simple is good! It is a bit pricey, $42, but it will last you for a while and the quality is definitely worth it to me.

Now let’s talk about the Tarteist Contour Palette! Once you’ve tried this there is no going back, it gives you the perfect chiseled cheekbones, natural looking rosy cheeks, and a subtle but stunning highlight! It comes with 6 pigments, 1 blush, 2 bronzing shades, 1 contour shade, a highlight, and a glow! (not sure what the difference between highlight and glow is but they’re labeled differently). Let’s talk about each “shade.” So the blush is a mauvey nude and gives you just the right amount of pink and color on your cheeks. The bronzing shades have somewhat of a shimmer, but that could just be to me, or maybe the lighting i’ve looked at it in haha! The matte contour shade never fails to give me the best sculpted face, and unlike some contouring shades, it has no gray or ashy undertone. The highlight has a rose gold tint and looks so gorgeous on every skin tone. Finally the glow, this highlight shade has a champagne “tint” to it and also looks so amazing on every skin color.Overall the entire palette is so worth the $43 and I promise you you will not be let down, it’s great whether you’re a beginner or professional! Also, all of the Tarte palettes smell amazing, like cocoa or something, and that makes me love the brand even more!!

If you were considering purchasing either of these, or you’ve been looking for an amazing quality contour or eyeshadow palette, I hope I steered you in the right direction and made up your mind for you because you need these in your life!!

I am in no way affiliated with Anastasia Beverly Hill or Tarte, I am just a big fan of their products and these are just my personal thoughts and opinions on each of these palettes 🙂

(I would’ve included pictures of each palette in this post but for copyright reasons, i didn’t)

get to know me!

Hey y’all! so i figured a little get to know me post would be the best first post for she spoke style ! So lets get into it. My name is Emily Hines, and i was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, or “The Big Easy.” I am the second oldest of 4 girls, and also the most of a tom boy believe it or not. Luckily i got the athletic gene, and i followed in the footsteps of my dad with soccer, which I’ve been playing for 11 years now! I also run track and i’ve taken up golf! One big thing that you should know about me is that i’m homeschooled, i started in 5th grade! It has its good aspects, like I can sleep in for as long as I want to and i can do school in my pajamas:) I’m able to participate in the athletic program of one of my local schools though, so that’s awesome! Also, another tid bit about me that’s extremely important to me is my faith! I try to incorporate God into everything I do, whether it be sports or school, and live a life that would make Him proud!
So as you know by now, this is a lifestyle blog, I’ll post about everything i love, food, fitness, beauty, fashion, and everything in between! Each of those topics hold a special place in my heart (especially food haha)! I’ve always had a knack for cooking, but makeup and fashion have been a more recent thing, only for the past year or so. Some brands you’ll probably see eventually on here include Tarte, Too Faced, Anastasia Beverly Hill, BH Cosmetics, IT Cosmetics, Lilly Pulitzer, Kendra Scott, and Vineyard Vines, just to name a few. And don’t forget the recipes and fitness posts;)
Thanks so much for visiting the page, and I’ll see you in my next post!
